Congratulations to violinist Jessica Chao upon the event of her participation in the Suzuki Music Association of California’s Los Angeles Graduation event at the Colburn School. Jessica, age 10, was honored with the unusual distinction of successfully completing two volumes of Suzuki repertoire in a single year.

Kudos to Jessica for her accomplishments and to the Chao family for their dedication to her success. We expect to see Jessica at more such graduations, along with many of her fellow Alpert Studio Students. Bravo!

Don’t Just Sing: First Graduates

2010 Alpert Studio Master Class Participants

Danny Gurwin, Brandon Alpert and Don’t Just Sing Graduates

It’s truly exciting to see the growth of professional level skills in young performers, especially in a short six week span. That’s just what happened in these intensive sessions; each performer brought new life and new excitement to their song performances. Forging this strong connection between acting and singing is the mark of a mature performer. But it’s astonishing to see it in a 13 year old.

As teachers, we seek to cultivate the patience and skills that give even the youngest students the ability to master both the technical and artistic challenges of performance. It’s a rewarding process for those who value personal growth as well as the arts.

Kudos to our first Don’t Just Sing, Say Something master class graduates! The class was a hit all around! Look for more such classes in the near future.

Summer is ahead! Attending a summer Suzuki institute is a great way to inspire and motivate your young violinist, and can also be a fun, family oriented vacation. For those families interested in a summer Suzuki institute, here are a few options to consider:

Locally: http://scalsuzukiinstitute.org/ organized by our own SMAC LA.

Throughout the US: http://suzukiassociation.org/events/institutes/

Please let me know if you have questions.

Remember, no violin lessons this week. See you the week of March 29.
